AS 1530.2 Material Flammability Test Equipment

This apparatus is designed based on the standard AS 1530.2 for testing the flammability of materials. The method applies to testing thin sheet or woven materials that are sufficiently pliable to be inserted into the test apparatus by hand without special softening treatment, allowing them to be graded according to a flammability index.

Samples must be conditioned for at least 24 hours in an environment at 20°C and 65% RH. The ignition source is 0.1 ml of pure alcohol. Position the sample vertically with its lower end 12.5 mm above the rim of the alcohol dish. If the flame does not reach the 21st mark within 160 seconds of igniting the lower end, record the maximum height reached; if the flame reaches the 21st mark before 160 seconds, record the time at which it reached that point. Monitor the temperature using a thermocouple thermometer over a period of 180 seconds, with a maximum recording interval of 1 second.

• Two parallel brass rails, light gauge angle section formed in length to be slightly convex, with location pin
• All other frames made of stainless steel material
• A 533.4mm scaler fixed to one side of mounting frame, with 21 equally spaced marks 25.4mm apart
• Two stainless steel wires along location pin with light tension to hold specimen in position
• Ignition copper trough with internal dimensions of 20mm x 10mm x 3mm, with brass support, height adjustable
• Stainless steel flue and hood
• 4 thermocouples, type K, positioned symmetrically within flue, 570mm above the test specimen
• 1 thermocouple, type K, positioned in control box to monitor ambient temperature
• LabVIEW software with DAQ module for temperature recording and Area (A) calculation
