Smoke Density Chamber ASTM E662, BS 6401
Description:
The working principle of the NBS smoke density test chamber is to calculate the specific optical density by measuring the light transmittance of the smoke (in %) using the built-in optical system of the test chamber. The minimum light transmittance is usually used to calculate the maximum specific optical density Ds.
The formula is: Dsmax=132Log10(100/Tmin).
Tmin is the minimum light transmittance during the test.
The NBS smoke density test chamber consists of the following components:
In the smoke density test, the sample is mounted horizontally/vertically in the test chamber and its upper surface is exposed to a radiant heat source of a specific irradiance (up to 50 kW/m²). The generated smoke is collected in the test chamber and the attenuation of the light beam passing through the smoke is measured by the built-in photometric measurement system in the test chamber. The data and results are collected and calculated by the software.
